Pre-Order Helper can ask your customers for a preferred shipping date while they are in the cart. The date picker is added by the app's theme app extension. You do not need to edit your theme code.
What customers see
On the cart page, every pre-order item gets a Select shipping date field under its name. The customer picks a date (today or later), the cart updates, and the chosen date is saved on the order as the line item property Pre-order shipping date.
Turn it on
1. Open Pre-Order Helper from your Shopify admin.
2. Go to Settings → Pre-order rules.
3. Tick Allow customers to select a shipping date and click Save. This option is part of the Professional plan. If it is greyed out, upgrade from Settings → Billing.
4. Make sure the app embed is on: in Settings → Status, Theme app extension should show On. If it shows Off, click Open theme editor, switch on Pre-Order Helper under App embeds and save the theme.
That is all. Add a pre-order product to your cart and open the cart page to see the field.
Where the date shows up
- Cart page: under the pre-order item, as the customer picked it.
- Order: as the line item property Pre-order shipping date on the order in Shopify admin.
- Pre-Order Helper → Backlog: the order is listed with its shipping date. If you need to move the date later, change it there and the customer is emailed the new date automatically.
Change the label or translate it
The field label defaults to Select shipping date. To change it or translate it per language, open Settings → Translations and edit Shipping date label.
Themes with an unusual cart layout
On most themes the field sits under the item name. If the app cannot find the item rows in your theme's cart template, it places the fields just above the Check out button instead, one per pre-order item, with the product name in the label. Either way no theme code is needed.
If the field does not appear at all, check that:
- the product is enabled for pre-order in Pre-Order Helper → Products,
- the item in the cart is a pre-order item (it carries the pre-order label), and
- the customer is on the cart page (`/cart`). Cart drawers and mini carts do not show the field; the app sends customers to the cart page when they click Check out from a drawer.
If you added the old code snippet
Earlier versions of this article asked you to paste a snippet into `main-cart-items.liquid` (or `cart-template.liquid`).
You do not need it any more. If it is still in your theme, it keeps working and the app uses it instead of adding its own field, so nothing breaks.
To clean it up, remove the block that starts with `<div … id="preOrderShippingDateWrapper…">` from the cart template, or follow the steps mentioned in this article: How to remove the Pre-Order Helper liquid code from your store
