Wholesale Lock Manager can restrict store content based on where a visitor is located. Use this when a product, collection, page or your entire storefront should only be visible to shoppers in certain countries, for example region-exclusive ranges, distributor territories, or products you cannot ship internationally.
Country locking is set up the same way as any other lock. The only difference is the option you choose under Applies to.
Before you start
Decide three things first:
- Which content you want to restrict
- Which countries should be allowed, or which should be blocked
- Where visitors who are not allowed should be sent
Create a country lock
1. Open Wholesale Lock Manager from your Shopify admin.
2. Click Create lock.
3. Enter a Lock name. This is only visible to you, so use something you will recognise later, for example "EU only range".
4. Set Status to Enable if the lock should start working as soon as you save it. Choose Disable to save the setup and switch it on later.
5. Under Applies to, select Visitors from country.
6. Choose whether the selected countries Can access or Cannot access the content.
- Can access — only visitors from the countries you select can see the content. Everyone else is blocked.
- Cannot access — visitors from the countries you select are blocked. Everyone else can see the content.
7. Select the countries this lock applies to.
8. Under Content, choose what you want to lock: Specific products, Specific collections, Entire storefront, Specific URL or Specific page. Then pick the individual items.
9. If you are locking products, set the Lock product settings you want:
- Hide products from collection pages
- Hide product links from navigation menus
- Hide from storefront search results
- Hide from SEO and search engines
10. Under Redirect to, choose where blocked visitors are sent. This can be the login page, a page in your store, or a custom URL. A page explaining that the item is not available in the visitor's region usually works better than sending them to the homepage.
12. Review the Summary panel on the right, then save the lock.
What visitors see
Visitors from a blocked country do not see the locked content in your storefront, and are redirected if they open the URL directly. Visitors from an allowed country browse as normal, with no login or passcode required.
How location is detected
Location is determined from the visitor's connection, not from their account address or the currency they are browsing in.
